Managua, Nicaragua (Sports Network) - Former world champion Ricardo Mayorga has been arrested for suspicion of rape and may not fight Felix Trinidad in New York on October 2.
Mayorga, a native a Nicaragua, was arrested in Managua's international airport after a 20-year-old woman filed a complaint saying she was beaten and sexually abused in a hotel room.
According to Mayorga, he had a normal relationship with the woman, who apparently left the hotel in good spirits. Mayorga also said he paid the woman about $60.
Mayorga also added that his bout with Trinidad could be suspended. Trinidad is a 31-year-old former welterweight, junior middleweight and middleweight champ.
Mayorga, also a former welterweight champion, is 27-1-4 with 23 knockouts in his career. He lost a close decision to Cory Spinks in a welterweight title unification fight last December.
